What You'll Do
The General Accounting Accountant position applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports as well as maintains or oversees the control of accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, tax payments, and income.
Other responsibilities include:
- Compiling and analyzing financial information to record transactions, prepare reports, and review and verify accuracy
- Preparing balance sheet and profit and loss statements, consolidated financial statements, and other accounting schedules and reports
- Monitoring Treasury accounts and utilizing US government letter of credit. Assisting in maintaining all banking relationships and effectively communicating with banks and the US Treasury. Monitoring daily banking activity and daily/monthly bank reconciliations.
- Monitoring electronic cash receipt and disbursement processing.
Responsibilities also include designing, modifying, installing, and/or maintaining accounting systems to ensure an adequate recognition of financial transactions. This includes adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures. Also performs account reconciliation and performs cost analysis. This position is integral to the accounting management and financial reporting of the company and the assurance that internal controls are adequate. This position interfaces with NNSA, NPO, and Audit personnel on a frequent basis.

- Bachelor's degree: No experience.
- Master's degree; No experience.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Moderate level of knowledge and experience in business and finance operations, and the ability to apply knowledge and independent judgment to solve problems
- Successful candidate will possess a general understanding and awareness of business operations and working knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices in accounting and cost analysis
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Cost Accounting Standards
