Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for part-time Hourly Custodians in the Administrative Services Division – Facility Operations. This is an hourly position, work hours are on-call and may include nights, weekends and potentially some holidays. Hours are not guaranteed and shall not exceed 69 hours in a calendar month.
Reporting to the Manager - Custodial Services or designee; the Hourly Custodian performs custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities within assigned area.
- Minimum age of 18
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of six months collective experience
- in an educational or commercial setting
- Knowledge and experience regarding proper
- disinfecting/sanitizing of surfaces
- Ability to read, write, follow written/oral
- directions, work independently or team environment
- Basic understanding of PC computer operation,
- MS Word and Outlook
- The position of Custodian requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds
- Bending at the waist; kneeling and squatting/stooping; repetitive arm/hand movement (extending the hands and arms to seize, hold, and grasp)
- Reaching above shoulder level (including stretching upwards on tiptoe maintaining balance); and standing for long periods of time
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/shower rooms and fixture in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers;
- Clean chalkboard and erasers; dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs;
- Set-up and take down equipment, such as chalkboards and easels, and furnishings, such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events;
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture;
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures;
- Lock and unlock buildings; secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupations;
- Report need for repair and/or maintenance;
- May wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows;
- May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from building using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or sweeping sidewalks or stairs;
- May move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis;
- Perform related duties as assigned
