Position Overview
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful Part-Time Human Resources Specialist to manage and enhance the organization’s HR functions. This position plays a vital role in supporting our mission to inspire and empower youth through mentorship. The HR Specialist will focus on employee relations, recruitment, compliance, and HR systems while fostering a positive workplace culture and planning activities that build team morale and engagement.
Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate the recruitment process, including job postings, screening, and scheduling interviews.
- Conduct background checks and reference checks.
- Manage onboarding processes, including orientation and new hire paperwork.
2. Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, benefits, and other inquiries.
- Support conflict resolution and promote effective communication within the organization.
- Develop initiatives to foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.
- Plan and organize employee gatherings, appreciation events, and team-building activities.
3. Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
- Assist in implementing and updating HR policies and procedures.
4. Benefits Administration
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and provide ongoing benefits support.
- Manage benefit-related communication and updates with third-party vendors.
5. Training & Development
- Coordinate staff development opportunities, including trainings and workshops.
- Help track and evaluate professional development outcomes.
6. Administrative Support
- Manage timekeeping and payroll systems in collaboration with finance staff.
- Prepare and maintain HR-related reports and documentation.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in human resources or related field. Nonprofit experience is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of HR principles, labor laws, and best practices.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in HR software, Microsoft Office Suite, and database management.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive information.
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
