What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Educator/Counselor position at YES Community Counseling Center?
The Prevention Educator/Counselor is responsible for providing substance use prevention services including screenings/assessments, social and emotional well-being presentations, and gambling education in assigned schools and colleges within Nassau County.
Responsibilities:
- Implements evidence-based curriculums in assigned school districts/colleges.
- Provides Evidence Programs to individual Teen Intervene and BASICS to students at risk of substance misuse.
- Provides alcohol and drug education and prevention information to students, school personnel and parents; this occasionally may include evening and weekend assignments.
- Assures that all requisite documentation/statistics are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with prevention guidelines.
- Consults with school staff with regards to substance use services and prevention issues.
- Participates and collaborates at YES Community counseling for staff meetings and supervision.
- Plans and provides awareness and information campaigns related to prevention during relevant events such as Red Ribbon Week and National Prevention Week.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s with one-two years’ working with youth/young adults or in the area of addiction, recovery, or wellness.
* Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage and captivate an audience
*Must have basic computer literacy and excellent verbal and written skills.
* Position requires the ability to travel and use of own car.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
