What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Y Readers Teacher position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the supervision of the Association Academic Initiatives Coordinator and consistent with the
mission of the YMCA, the Summer Y Readers Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing
literacy-based activities for students participating in the program, providing each participant with the
opportunity to develop physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.

Essential Functions
• Use student data to plan literacy instruction that includes differentiation based on individual
student needs
• Execute lesson plans as an integral part of the daily program, making changes as they become
necessary
• Analyze and use student data to build groupings and inform instruction
• Facilitate test administration to ensure high validity rate
• Implement arrival procedures to ensure the safety of students
• Provide guidance to instructional assistants and volunteers that allows them to support instruction
• Implement positive behavior management practices
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Current NC teaching certification required
• Minimum 1 year of experience teaching literacy in grades K-3 required
• Principal recommendation required
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances
• Ability to problem solve
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Speak concisely and effectively communicate in English, written and oral
• Walk, stand, kneel and sit (including on the floor) while maintaining alertness for extended periods
of time
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
• Lift and/or assist children up to 65 pounds in weight
• Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds in weight
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an
emergency
• View and enter data for extended periods of time
