Responsibilities
Day Camp Lead Counselors make a positive impact on each child under their supervision. They develop unique relationships quickly with each camper, participating actively in all activities while teaching and role modeling outstanding behavior. The Lead Counselor must manage a demanding environment while balancing high standards for behavior, safety, and values. Lead Counselors assist the Program Director oversee the daily functions of the Summer Day Camp for their assigned group(s).
- Act as lead contact for assigned group. Be responsible for the overall success of the group while keeping campers and counselors on track with appropriate expectations.
- Execute day-to-day responsibilities to create a safe, secure, and enjoyable environment for campers. Ensure that site emergency plans are followed when necessary.
- Maintain up to date camper files. Make sure the camper is signed in and out daily and the person picking up the camper is on the designated pick-up list.
- Minimize potential problems among campers by recognizing danger signals and quickly and effectively diagnosing and creating plans to resolve these potential conflicts. Report all discipline, accounting, or other problems to the supervisor. Fill out all incident/ accident forms as necessary and submit them to the supervisor immediately.
Requirements
Candidates must be committed to contributing to the mission, culture, and values of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne as well as:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 Years of Higher Education or the equivalent is Preferred.
- Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
- Excellent human relation skills and enthusiasm.
- Basic math skills and demonstrated recordkeeping proficiency.
- An elevated level of organization, flexibility, and ability to handle difficult situations effectively.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Successfully complete within 60 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/O2 Certification, Bloodborne Pathogen training, Child Abuse Prevention training, and all other required training as specified by your supervisor.
Salary: Part-time $15.25-$15.75
Hours Available: Monday-Friday, 6:15am-8:45am, Summer Seasonal position
