GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director the position's primary goal is to manage the administration of health & wellness programs for members in accordance with the objectives and policies set forth by the Association.
HOURS: This is a part time position requiring 12 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the management of all Wellness Programs at the branch with an emphasis on increasing the revenue streams of personal training and small group programs. Management of group classes, fitness assessments, equipment orientations, and special events.
- Supports the department director with coordination of the annual department budget and takes appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness of the association and integrity of the department.
- Oversees the personnel and volunteers of the department in their respective responsibilities. Recruits, trains, and recognizes wellness volunteers. Reviews effectiveness of employed personnel and volunteers bi-annually; observes individual performance; appraises effectiveness and communicates findings to the Senior Fitness Director.
- Reviews and evaluates the class attendance, program enrollment and services provided by the wellness department and communicates findings to their supervisor.
- Develops new and innovative programs in the area of health & wellness, while targeting youth, adults, seniors and families with an emphasis on increased membership retention.
- Conducts wellness classes, programs and training of staff and volunteers of the department in the performance of their respective responsibilities.
- Supervises the Wellness Center by being attentive to all participants to protect their safety. Knows and enforces facility rules and requires suitable conduct from participants at all times. Cleans fitness equipment and maintains the cleanliness of the wellness area.
- Instructs members and participants on safe exercise techniques including but not limited to warm-up and stretching progression, aerobic conditioning, strength training, proper use of Center equipment and workout progression.
- Conducts individual and group member orientations within the allotted time frames and in accordance with guidelines presented. Maintains appropriate record keeping.
- Promotes and implements relationship building in all programming, training and supervision. Builds and maintains a high standard of customer service for all members.
- May be responsible for assisting in the coordination of youth sports programs and facility/gym rental scheduling.
- Performs Manager On Duty functions as assigned by supervisor.
- Coordinates special events including Healthy Kids Day, senior health fairs, family events, etc. Performs site supervisor/building supervisor responsibilities during tournaments and special events.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:
- Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
- Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
- Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Follows mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
- Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises 5-20 Wellness Staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training volunteers; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Group fitness and/or personal training certification preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Proficiency with standard business operations software and Microsoft office.
- CPR/AED, Oxygen, and Basic First Aid
