Climbing & Challenge is seeking a motivated, organized, and people-focused Program Manager who shares our commitment to experiential education, staff development, community building, and cultural humility. The primary responsibilities of this role are the program management of climbing and challenge course programs across King County, including indoor rock climbing, artificial outdoor rock climbing, bouldering / traversing, low challenge courses, high challenge courses, and ground-based teambuilding.
Climbing & Challenge is dedicated to connecting individuals and communities to themselves and others through shared recreational experiences at our various program locations at YMCA properties throughout King County and beyond. As a program of the Camping & Outdoor Leadership branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, Climbing & Challenge offers year-round programming. The Challenge Program engages with schools, non-profits, corporations, and community-based organizations to design and implement transformative single-day challenge course experiences throughout the year. Activities within the Challenge Program include icebreakers, teambuilding activities, low challenge course elements, high challenge course elements, portable challenge programs, and debriefing / reflection. The Climbing Program runs year-round for YMCA members and non-YMCA community members at our artificial climbing walls. Activities within the Climbing Program include free climbing hours for YMCA members, climbing classes, climbing clinics, group rentals, and belay classes.

Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Two years or more of related experience in youth development programming with experience facilitating, marketing, developing programs, managing staff, and conducting trainings.
Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and management skills.
Commitment to extraordinary customer service with the ability to effectively resolve conflicts.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
Preferred Education And Experience
Experience and / or certification in climbing and challenge course industry (CWA or ACCT).
Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
Ability to become an Authorized Driver.
This position prefers the ability to drive for the Y:
Outdoor Leadership uses 14-passenger minibuses to transport passengers and equipment to trailheads and campsites, including driving on interstates, city streets, and rural roads.
This safety-sensitive role requires transporting clients as “authorized drivers” for the Y. Potential offers will be contingent upon meeting the following conditions: Being 21 , having a valid driver's license for at least three years, and possessing a driving record that meets Y standards (no more than two moving violations within the last three years; no significant incidents, such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, tickets 20 miles above the speed limit, etc., within the last 5 years). You must also pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances, including marijuana.

Develops, produces, and distributes information and materials necessary to promote programs in accordance with marketing plans, including YMCA Branches, external partnerships, and ongoing outreach to community partners.
Cultivates and manages internal and external partnerships.
Manages booking, scheduling, and invoicing process for all groups, YMCA members, and community members.
Provides high quality customer service.
Assists with development and delivery of staff training.
Assists with development and delivery of programming.
Oversees implementation of large-scale branch events such as carnivals, festivals, and Healthy Kids Day.

This individual will have office space in the Outdoor Leadership offices at the Cascade People’s Center in the South Lake Union area of Seattle to fulfill job duties. This job operates in both a professional office setting and at various locations across the YMCA of Greater Seattle. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This role also works outside in all weather conditions and uses Climbing & Challenge equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms to grab and hold. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift equipment and supplies, up to 30 pounds.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time hourly position that includes occasional evenings and weekends. Shifts vary based on program needs.
TRAVEL
This is a hybrid position that balances remote work, time at the office, and travel to program facilities. Travel is primarily local during the business day across King County. Mileage reimbursement is available for eligible trips.
