ABOUT THE ROLE
This position is responsible for the design and coordination of space planning, multi-year sequence planning and accommodation planning projects, furniture configuration and client moves. Provides space allocation reports and advice to stakeholders and ensures accommodation, space and furniture standards are met. Provides budget estimates and schedules related to workspace accommodation projects, moves, and furniture purchases. Provides stacking, blocking, and space planning design for accommodation and capital projects, renovations, furniture reconfigurations and moves; monitors and verifies consultant/contractor work and conducts furniture inventory and disposition.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Reviews existing space use within facilities against predetermined forecasted staffing needs of departments to identify potential shortfalls and provides space allocation reports to stakeholders to make informed decisions for space and accommodation planning, taking into account business requirements.
- Gathers and integrates business and functional requirements to translate into a workplace experience that both supports the goals of the organization and meets legislation/standards.
- Develops blocking/stacking plans and the sequencing of multi-phase, multi-year renovation and space planning projects.
- Conducts space utilization and workflow studies, documents critical work functional relationships outlined by management and provides placement options of business units within facilities and floors.
- Assists with the planning, costing and implementation of alternative workspace approaches in alignment with corporate and business unit objectives within allocated budget, as required.
- Examines alternative work strategies and emerging industry trends and designs flexible and sustainable workspaces based on corporate standards and makes recommendations to management.
- Leads accommodation and reconfiguration projects under management oversight including monitoring project status.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Interior/Environmental Design or Space Planning or related field from a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited institution or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in facilities space planning and designing corporate interiors including multi year sequencing using blocking/stacking tools and supporting various levels of staff with changes to the approach to workspace.
- Understanding of various current workplace strategies (e.g., activity-based work and hybrid work).
- Ability to develop creative and functional interior design solutions to solve client issues.
- Ability to prepare conceptual layout drawings and blocking/stacking plans for space planning projects.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, acts and regulations.
- Working knowledge of relevant project management principals and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of furniture systems and principals and how they relate to accommodation planning.
- Knowledge in Computer Aided Facility Management software.
- Proficiency in fundamentals of AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
- Intermediate skills in virtual platforms and MS Office.
- Ability to connect with a range of internal/external stakeholders and build collaborative work relationships.
- Strong ability to develop relationships and work in a welcoming and inclusive environment, where diversity is celebrated and where everyone can develop to their full potential.
- Ability to manage competing priorities.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
