We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Corporate Controller of Payroll to join our growing finance team. The Assistant Corporate Controller of Payroll will oversee payroll operations while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role combines responsibilities from both payroll management and corporate accounting, including overseeing financial reporting, payroll processing, tax compliance, and managing related accounting functions. The position requires a strategic approach to process management and efficient communication with senior management, legal counsel, and other departments. Responsibilities
- Payroll Management: Assist in overseeing the payroll department’s day-to-day activities (including payroll processing for employees across various departments).
- Payroll Processing: Ensure the accurate and timely processing of employee wages/ bonuses/deductions and other payroll-related transactions on a regular schedule (e.g. weekly/bi-weekly or monthly).
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with federal/state and local payroll tax regulations as well as other applicable laws (e.g.
- wage and hour laws/tax withholdings). Prepare and review tax filings (such as quarterly and annual payroll tax reports).
- System Maintenance & Improvement: Work with payroll software and systems to ensure proper updates/changes and improvements are made to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing accurate financial reports for management. Such as payroll expense reports/ reconciliations and forecasts.
- Audits: Prepare for internal and external audits related to payroll-assisting in the gathering of necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with auditing standards.
- Employee Support: Address payroll-related inquiries from employees-assisting in resolving issues regarding paycheck discrepancies/deductions and tax withholdings.
- Process Improvements: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices for payroll management.
- Collaboration: Work closely with HR/Finance and IT teams to ensure smooth integration of payroll systems with other organizational processes.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processing
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or higher preferred – Equivalent experience or education will be considered
- 8 or more years of accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency with Excel – (Advanced formula/pivot table and strong modeling skills)
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks/CDK and Lightspeed preferred
- Strong Communication/Language skills in regards to: Data/Customer Complaints/ Copywriting and Presentations to Large Groups.
