What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Director - Camp Starfish position at YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF KINGSTON?
Camp Starfish Education Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This is a grant funded camp located at the Kingston YMCA with specific summer learning loss prevention, healthy living, and service learning objectives. Candidates should be prepared to be enthusiastically supportive of program activities. Preference given to those candidates pursuing a career in education. The Education Director will oversee the development, implementation, and coordination of the enrichment programs of math, reading, science and other specialty programs tailored to age-appropriate skills, in grades K-5.
Camp Season runs 6/30/2025-8/8/2025. Mandatory training dates TBD.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Program and curriculum development. Activities should be engaging and promote intellectual, social and emotional growth, and adapt to support the academic and emotional well-being of the campers.
- Plan weekly lesson plans that incorporate STEM, arts, literacy, and physical education ensuring a balanced approach to learning and fun.
- Ensure counselors are equipped to lead educational activities.
- Lead specialty activities with assistance from Counselors and help keep Counselors focused on the activity.
- Implement strategies for positive behavior management.
- Collect assessments and feedback from campers and staff. Use evaluation tools to assess camper progress, learning and growth.
- Perform all responsibilities in an enthusiastic and committed manner.
- Take the initiative to be actively participatory in all activities.
- Must attend and complete all required trainings.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelors or Associate degree in Education, Child Development, or related field, preferred. -
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with children in a formal educational setting or summer camp program, ideally in grades K-5. Experience in program development and staff supervision is preferred. -
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to create and deliver engaging lesson plans and activities.
- Passion for working with children and helping them develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
