What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Young Mens Christian Association Of Mankato?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Processes payroll and maintains all payroll records for the Mankato Family YMCA. Serves as the point of contact for all payroll related issues. Assists with various audits that are performed each year. Provides excellent customer service to all staff and external vendors. This is a traditional office position and as a member of the Administration team, learns other job functions and serves as a backup to other team members as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Process payroll, review source documents for accuracy and ensure all payroll reports are filed correctly with appropriate governmental agencies.
- Maintain records and manage information related to the YMCA retirement fund.
- Maintain files and storage of payroll records.
- Assist the Finance Director in creating reports and doing analytical work with payroll and accounting data for management and the finance committee of the board of directors.
- Prepare and make necessary journal entries as assigned by the Finance Director.
- Assist with month-end accounting reconciling payroll accounts.
- Assist and works with Finance Director and auditors in completion of annual audit.
- Assist the Leadership Team to provide needed information for various audits that may be conducted by outside agencies such as grant funders.
- Assist department directors by providing historical payroll information for developing the annual budget.
- Work as a member of the administration team learning other departmental duties and backing up team members, as needed such as daily deposits and accounts payable.
- At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
- Respond to all staff inquiries expeditiously, within twenty-four business hours, when possible.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree in accounting or related field
- In absence of a degree, experience in a payroll position will suffice depending on experience.
- Understanding of basic accounting concepts
- Never been accused or convicted of any form of child abuse
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and state regulations governing payroll and benefits
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the payroll tax and accounting field
- Proficient in all standard business software
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain employee confidentiality through secure reporting and personnel information
- Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach
- Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
- Certifications: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, and Basic First Aid (required). Training can be provided upon hiring and must be obtained within 90 days. Higher levels of certification are accepted.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent
- Two or more years related payroll and accounting experience
- Certification/training for FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certificate or CPP (Certified Payroll Profession.
- Experience with Paycom payroll software
