Construction Laborer

Asphalt Laborers are responsible for pouring, smoothing and setting of asphalt for roads, driveways and parking lots. The responsibilities of an Asphalt Laborer include delivering water to the rollers and plate compactors, preparing the pavement saw, measuring the line for the day, sweeping and raking the deck working between the mill, directing traffic and clearing the area at the end of the day.

To ensure success as an Asphalt Laborer, you should be physically fit and be able to work long hours in all weather conditions. Asphalt Laborers may be required to work over weekends, on public holidays and at night.

Asphalt Laborers usually perform many of the following tasks:

Ø Offloading the truck and gathering tools for the day

Ø Transporting rakes, lutes, shovels and spray cans to the paver.

Ø Moving the pavement saw to the transverse joint.

Ø Sweeping and cleaning the area in front of the paver.

Ø Working as a Flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone.

Ø Transporting water to the rollers, power broom and plate compactor.

Ø Building a launchpad for the paver at the beginning of the pull.

Ø Assisting the screed operator

Ø Shoveling material out to the end gate.

Ø Maintaining cleanliness and packing equipment away at the end of the day.

Asphalt Laborers should possess the following skills and/or requirements:

Ø Having customer service skills.

Ø Being self-motivated.

Ø Having good communication skills.

Ø Being able to work independently.

Ø Having knowledge of road and traffic regulations.

Ø Being responsible.

Ø Ability to work as a team.

Ø Being able to work under pressure.

Ø Having good work ethic.

Ø Being able to read customer orders and follow safety regulations.

Ø Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
