We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Outreach Worker for our Street Outreach Program at Youth Shelters and Family Services in Santa Fe, NM. In this role, you will engage with youth in the community, offering crucial support, resources, and guidance to help them navigate challenging circumstances and work towards a brighter future.
What would my job responsibilities be?
- Maintain consistent and open communication with the SOP Program Director regarding all aspects of client care, legal matters, and program operations.
- Deliver direct street-based services to homeless and at-risk youth, focusing on immediate needs and long-term support.
- Manage administrative tasks and contribute to the efficient operation of program services.
- Carry out program support tasks independently, with minimal supervision.
- Identify and engage homeless and at-risk youth on the streets to offer support and services.
- Provide comprehensive information on available community resources, including YSFS programs and the Street Outreach Program.
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with clients by addressing their immediate basic needs and offering ongoing support.
- Develop and maintain external relationships relevant to client care, working under the guidance of the Program Director.
- Co-lead educational sessions on harm reduction and participate in other program-related groups, events, and activities as assigned.
- Assist in gathering and organizing in-kind donations to support program needs.
- Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of the Street Outreach facility, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
- Participate in regular training sessions and meetings to stay informed and effective in your role.
What are the qualifications and experience I need to become a Outreach Worker?
- Ability to connect with and build rapport with diverse groups, especially vulnerable youth.
- Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.
- Skilled in assessing situations quickly and responding with appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrates a genuine care for the well-being of others and an understanding of the challenges faced by homeless and at-risk youth.
- Works well within a team, maintaining open lines of communication with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Manages time effectively, balancing multiple responsibilities and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle emotionally challenging situations and maintain a positive outlook in the face of adversity.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances and program needs.
- Proficiency in basic computer tasks, documentation, and reporting.
- Experience with homeless and at-risk youth, preferred YSFS automobile policy.
- Must be over 21 years of age to meet minimum eligibility requirements of our automobile insurance carrier.
- CPR/ First Aid Certified (will train).
What are the minimum education requirements?
- Two years degree in human services or related field and at least one year relatable experience.
- OR a high school diploma or GED and at least two years related experience.
