This position is advertised from the minimum to the maximum hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.
NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision, performs technical work of routine difficulty in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices; work is subject to exposure to varying weather conditions, and exposure to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease and hazardous materials; also involves lifting of 25 - 50 pounds; this position has department specific responsibility; employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing on a random basis or for reasonable suspicion.
(Illustrative Only) Fabricates, installs, and maintains traffic control devices; assists with the inspection and documentation of pavement marking and striping of county-maintained roads; remove signs that are damaged, incorrect or worn that need to be replaced; responsible for the fabrication, installation and maintenance of various traffic control devices; maintains historical records of all traffic control installations and maintenance to include work zone signing plans; shuts down project(s) if unsafe and until conditions are corrected. Regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned; provides on-call, 24-7 services on a predetermined rotation schedule.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year of experience in traffic control operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B within six (6) months of employment; preference given to those applicants that possess a Work Zone Traffic Control Certification equal to the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Certification; requires successful completion of a background check.
Knowledge of: Yuma County policies and procedures; methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used for fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs and related regulatory and warning devices; occupational hazards, safety rules, OSHA regulations, First Aid and CPR; laws and regulations contained in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Skill in: Creating and maintaining accurate computerized records of all sign replacements along roadways in the County Highway System; operating personal computer systems and applications to include data entry, file management, and graphic design; following written and verbal instructions; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; establishing effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Ability to: Work a varying extreme weather conditions; be exposed to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease and hazardous materials. Ability to lift of 25 – 50 pounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.; bend and stand (30%); walk and stoop. (20%)
