YWCA Central Virginia is now seeking a new chief executive leader to help the organization continue meeting its mission going forward.
Position Overview
YWCA Central Virginia is seeking a new Executive Director to lead the organization in fulfilling its mission of social and racial justice, community support, and advocacy. The ideal candidate should have strong business acumen, leadership skills, and a passion for the YWCA’s goals. Responsibilities include ensuring fiscal soundness, expanding services and programs, and collaborating with community stakeholders. The Executive Director will serve as the public face of the organization, manage staff, attract talent, and promote YWCA's image while fostering community alliances and expanding donor support.
Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and lead strategic vision with input from internal and external stakeholders.
- Cultivate partnerships with local organizations, public policy makers, and communities of color.
- Stay updated on relevant trends, including public policy, demographics, and nonprofit management practices.
Board Relations
- Partner with the Board to set and execute strategic goals, manage financial resources, and ensure organizational growth.
- Assist in board recruitment, orientation, and evaluation.
- Provide regular reports and updates on operations, programs, and financial health.
Operations & Management
- Lead day-to-day operations, including program administration, human resources, and financial oversight.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and organizational policies.
- Develop and monitor the annual budget with the Director of Finance.
- Supervise staff, ensure performance excellence, and foster a positive workplace culture.
- Oversee YWCA facilities, ensuring safety, security, and proper maintenance.
Financial Oversight & Development
- Lead the financial health and growth of the organization, including budget management and securing diverse revenue streams.
- Develop and implement an aggressive fundraising strategy, cultivating relationships with foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors.
- Ensure financial feasibility of programs and new initiatives.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Represent YWCA Central Virginia to donors, funders, media, and the public.
- Actively network with community leaders, human service organizations, and other YWCAs to build sustainable relationships.
- Serve as a confident spokesperson to increase the organization's visibility.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; graduate degree preferred in Behavioral Sciences, Business, or Communications.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of executive leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Skills: Proven leadership and management skills, financial oversight experience, strong communication abilities, and fundraising expertise.
- Commitment: Passion for YWCA’s mission to empower women and eliminate racism.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Ability to travel for meetings and trainings.
- Compliance with background check and fingerprinting requirements.
The role is primarily office-based but includes frequent community engagement, meetings, and travel. Occasional extended hours may be required, especially in emergencies.
Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000
Benefits: As a full-time employee of YWCA Central Virginia, you are entitled to participate in our group insurance plans at little to no cost to you. The YWCA offers life and short-term disability through Dearborn, dental and vision through Delta, and two health plans through Anthem Health Keepers- Gold & Silver. YWCA Central Virginia pays 100% for the Dearborn policy as a benefit to you as long as you are employed with us.
After one year of employment with us, you will qualify to be enrolled in the YWCA Retirement Fund. YWCA of Central Virginia contributes a certain percentage of your wages each month, with additional contributions coming from the YWCA Retirement Fund, Inc. During 2024, our YWCA will contribute 7.5% of your YWCA wages, with the Fund matching 3%. This amount is subject to change if budgetary constraints become an issue. The rate is decided yearly by our Board of Directors.
