Job Title: After School Program Interventionist Specialist
Reports to: Site Coordinator, Second-In-Command, & Director of After School Programs
Works with: YWCA: Director of After School Programs, Site Coordinators, Executive Director and other staff members.
Jamestown Public School (JPS): School Principal and staff, and After School Program Coordinator.
Other: Chautauqua Striders, community contractors (both agency and private), and community after school program staff.
Hours: Up to 17.5 hours per week, 37 weeks per year (According to school / program calendar)
- Plan and conduct activities tailored to the needs and abilities of children with special needs and/or behavioral challenges
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where all children feel valued and engaged
- Work closely with parents, teachers, and other staff to develop and implement Individualized Activity Plans
- Monitor and document the progress and behavior of participants, adjusting activities as needed.
- Implement strategies and interventions to manage challenging behaviors effectively
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in activities.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to special needs and behavioral management.
- Ensures compliance with NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations (i.e. safety, nutrition, discipline, staff, and health care plan).
- Completes projects/assignments on time.
- Copes well in unexpected situations with calm and solution-oriented attitude.
- Completes attendance rosters and turns in promptly.
- Completes Discipline/Incident/Accident Reports and turns in promptly.
- Develops and completes lesson plans by required deadline.
- Helps with Daily Wellness Checks.
- Understands and implements safety and security procedures as outline by Site Coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Site Coordinator
- Adhering to LEAPS grant guidelines
- Attends Staff/Program Leader meetings.
- Assists in providing ideas for special events and new activities.
- Reviews materials/websites for implementation into activities.
- Attends required staff development trainings.
- Facilitates snack times.
- Implements lesson plans.
- Gathers materials for activities prior to program.
- Informs Site Coordinator of supplies needed at least one week prior to needing supplies
- Provides information to Site Coordinator for monthly newsletter and reports.
- Works in cooperation with other Program Leaders, teachers and after school staff.
- Provides and ensures good “customer service” for families that begins daily at the designated student “pick-up” point.
- Communicates effectively with families.
- Advocates for children and families. Makes referrals as needed.
- Involves youth in program planning and decision-making where appropriate.
- Promotes open and honest communication in addition to updating Site Coordinator with pertinent information.
- Works well as a team member; models and facilitates the team approach.
- May be asked to assist in the training of new staff members.

- Relevant Certification or training in special needs education, behavioral management, or related fields are a plus.

- Adherence to all policies regarding personal conduct as listed in the Personnel Policy handbook (beginning on page 20).
Minimum qualifications:
- Understands and has working knowledge of child development and best practices.
- Associate’s degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, or a related field, preferred.
- Two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
- Education or experience may be substituted.
