Position Summary
As a person in long term recovery the individual is responsible for general supervision, develops ongoing professional relationships that help clients who are in or who are considering recovery from addiction to produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses, or organizations-While advancing their recovery from addiction while supporting YWCA’s vision and mission.
Responsible for implementing support to women and children from the Ohio Valley following vision and mission of YWCA Wheeling of eliminating racism and empowering women.
Major Responsibilities
- Consults with and reports/documents any behavior or problems to the Residential Coordinator.
- General Recovery support
- Assist participants in developing Recovery and Relapse Prevention Plans
- Referrals to outside agencies to meet recovery needs.
- Participates in resident case management and goal setting, maintains necessary paperwork and shares progress with outreach staff.
- Assists resident in navigating outside services.
- Acts as liaison between resident between parole, probation, CPS and recovery home.
- Functions as a support person, when needed, by listening to residents’ concerns and problems and advocates to residence staff.
- Educates residents and helps them explore resources for recovery or treatment.
- Help resident on willingness to seek ongoing treatment as well as knowledge of Precontemplation, Contemplation, Action, and maintenance.
- Follows and enforces the rules and regulations of the state of WV and board certification.
- Attends staffing of residents and resident team meetings.
- Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings.
- Chaperones group-sponsored recovery events and/or social functions.
- Assists residents in learning and maintaining living skills.
- Monitors resident scheduled case plan activities, long/short term goals.
- Advises resident about any changes in policy or procedures.
- Assists with random drug screenings and room checks along with completion of all necessary paperwork.
- Ensures that residents are secure in the home; conducts room checks by curfew, locks doors, sets alarm.
- Adheres to WV PRSS and WVARR code of Ethics.
- Completion of vehicle safety training and all staff required trainings.
- Other Duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of health and safety precautions in group environments.
- Knowledge of behavior patterns of persons with substance misuse.
- Ability to interact with residents to provide a supportive recovery atmosphere.
- Ability to accept and utilize supervision.
- Ability to communicate with staff.
- Understands 12-step recovery programs.
- Minimal computer skills and general office skills (answering phone, taking messages, filing, etc)
- Ability to listen to and hold confidences.
- Valid Driver’s License
Type & Amount of Experience/Education
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification or in the process of certifying.
- A minimum of 2 years of continued sobriety.
- Experience in a related field preferred.
