The Sales Director for Target manages sales activities of the organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate sales reps, with the outcome of exceeding business sales goals and performance objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. The following is an overview of the main duties for this position and is not all-inclusive of each task that may be performed in this role.
Key Account Management:
Sales Rep Management
- Directly responsible for managing sales representatives for Target.
- Monitors and measures the performance of sales reps on a weekly basis to ensure the highest volume of sales. Weekly follow up is key to success.
- With the coordination of the Vice President of Sales and Business Development, establishes sales quotas, goals, and objectives to monitor while educating and training on product assortments, sales and marketing techniques.
Territory Management
- Represents company at sales meetings with buyers and meeting with sales reps
- Monitors Target sales and total account list business and prepares quota performance reports by account for Vice President of Sales and Business Development.
- Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs and review cycles, volume potential, price schedules, and discount rates within company guidelines.
- Works with Sales Analytics. Reviews sales performance and determines appropriate product changes to eliminate unprofitable and slow-moving items from customer’s assortments.
- Maximizes Productivity and Sales Volume while maintaining line lists and accurate account information and history.
Financial Management:
- Responsible and Accountable for Sales and Margin performance of Target
- Analyzes and controls expenditures of territory to conform to budgetary requirements, including the use of available funding for advertising, Markdown and other Target requirements
- Works with Vice President of Sales and Business Development to prepare and approve annual budgets for territory
- Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume and potential sales
- Forecasts demand for promotions by submitting forecasts and changes to the Forecasting Department and is accountable to all inventory brought in for those promotions
Communication Management:
- Liaison between Target and other departments that support key accounts within the company
- Communicates the Target activity via kick off meetings, call reports and customer account profiles and in appropriate systems
- Routine travel is required, expected up to 8 business trips per year, spread out quarterly
- May be required to work varying shifts to accommodate key account needs and requirements
- Works closely with Forecasting and Business Analytics in maintaining line lists

- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business management, or related field
- Five (5) plus years of related experience, industry and product specific experience a plus
- Well-developed interpersonal / communication skills and the ability to build relationships to drive results
- Strong presentation and communication skills with planning and implementation abilities
- Demonstrates problem solving skills and working under tight timelines, multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to balance priorities across multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- This position is Nationally posted, preferred location within reasonable distance from customer-base in Minneapolis, MN, or company headquarters in Spokane, Washington. Will report to VP of Sales out of Chicago, Illinois.
