Zena Recreation Park Camp is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our team as an Assistant Summer Camp Director. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our camp and providing a safe, fun, and enriching experience for our campers. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Camp Director to oversee all aspects of camp life, from program development and staff supervision to camper well-being and parent communication.
Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Implementation: Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of engaging and age-appropriate camp activities, including arts & crafts, sports, outdoor adventures, and special events. This may involve researching new program ideas, scheduling activities, and procuring necessary supplies.
- Staff Supervision & Support: Supervise, train, and mentor camp counselors and other support staff. This includes providing guidance and addressing any staff concerns or issues. Assist in the recruitment and hiring process as needed.
- Camper Well-being: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers. This includes enforcing camp rules and regulations, addressing camper concerns, and managing any disciplinary issues.
- Parent Communication: Serve as a point of contact for parents, responding to inquiries and providing regular updates on camp activities. Address parent concerns and facilitate communication between parents and camp staff.
- Logistics & Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the camp, including scheduling, meal planning, and maintenance of camp facilities and equipment. Manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Risk Management & Safety: Implement and enforce all safety protocols and emergency procedures. Identify and address potential safety hazards. Maintain accurate records of incidents and accidents.
- Budget Management: Assist in managing the camp budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting, preferably in a leadership role. Prior experience as a camp counselor or similar position is highly desirable.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or a degree in recreation, education, or a related field is preferred.
