Position Summary
This member of the ZooTampa Event Productions team plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of consumer events.
Who We Are
ZooTampa at Lowry Park is one of the most popular zoos in the southeastern U.S., with over 1.2 million visitors annually. We have grown to 56 acres of naturalistic wildlife habitats, lush tropical gardens, and engaging activities. As an AZA-accredited zoo, we offer award-winning educational programs, up-close animal encounters, and fun seasonal events.
- Acts as primary contact, project manager, and facilitator of the Zoo’s consumer events as assigned by the Director or Sr. Manager of Event Productions.
- Prepares comprehensive event timelines and checklists for the Director or Sr Manager of Event Productions, including layout diagrams, event set-up and breakdown, staff assignments, event operations, and post-event analysis.
- Creates and distributes an accurate and timely Prospectus and BEO for every event, ensuring Zoo-wide information flow.
- Schedules and participates in regular interdepartmental meetings to discuss event plans to promote Zoo-wide collaboration, communicate client requests, maintain brand image, and ensure successful events.
- Provides hands-on support during all Zoo events, including set-up and breakdown.
- Manages a wide range of complex and confidential situations related to Zoo events, resolving conflicts efficiently and discreetly.
- Prioritizes the safety of employees and guests during events by proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, communications, marketing, business, or related field required.
- Minimum 2 years in event planning, project management or related skills.
- Basic knowledge of Tripleseat computer software and AV equipment preferred.
- Must be deadline oriented.
- Capable of influencing and leading cross-departmental teams throughout the event planning and production process.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capability to think critically and independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
- Exhibits project management skills, including designing, implementing, and tracking events and programs
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
- Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, and standing, walking and driving.
- Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and carry event items such as signs, supplies, linens, etc.
