Summary
Cycle Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering cycling classes. Delivering includes instruction that develops and organizes movement sequencing and progression or regression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun. Duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities: Leads energizing, fun, safe and educational group classes. Creates a welcoming class environment for all fitness levels and encourages and motivates class members to do their best. Answers questions from participants to support them in achieving their wellness goals. Builds rapport with members, helps participants connect with one another and create community. Keeps accurate class attendance records. Maintain the Cycling and Group Exercise equipment, stereo, and area where class is held, and reports any issues with equipment, and all previously mentioned items, to direct supervisor as soon as possible. Attends required trainings, staff meeting, reads staff emails sent by the organization or manager. As part of a team of instructors, helps cover classes that need a substitute instructor, and from time to time asked to participate in a special event or holiday class. Instructors will also be required to complete paperwork, such as payroll, on a timely basis.

  • Arrive 5 minutes before the class starts to set up and answer any questions members may have.
  • Start and end class on time. Stay after class to answer questions outside studio if needed, but not expected to stay more than 10 minutes.
  • Instruct students in an impartial fashion, not giving more attention to the front row vs. the back row.
  • Make sure all the equipment and / or props are put away neatly in the correct place before leaving the studio.
  • Contact the group exercise manager if there are any issues regarding the equipment, including the stereo, lights, fans, floor and props.
  • Follow safety policies and be able to perform needed assistance in a medical or environmental emergency such as fires or earthquakes

Qualifications
  • Certified in specialty program or by nationally recognized group exercise certification such as AFAA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, ISSA or NETA.
  • Cue clearly with succinct action words while teaching
  • Keep class fresh and evolving to attract and keep members interested in attending class.
  • Make students feel wanted and create a community
  • Read the class and be able to increase or decrease the intensity or difficulty of the class in order that the class participants find success and fun along with a good workout.
  • Complete continuing education in Cycling or a format the instructor would like to teach.
  • Keep certifications current. Preferred Certification of AFAA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, ISSA or NETA.
  • Current CPR & AED Certified is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The employee must be able to move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit and have the endurance to complete an appropriately level workout.
  • The employee is required to talk and be able to hear member's questions or needs. The employee is frequently required to stand and ride for 60 minutes and depending on the format of the class the employee may be required to reach with hands and arms; balance, kneel, crouch, and / or crawl.
Other Duties
Supervisory:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Hours:
This is a part-time job with hours available during the day, evening, and weekends upon need.
Salary:
This is an hourly position. $45- $60 per hour starting wage, depending on experience, number of formats taught, and education.
