Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) is a non-profit organization founded in 2013 with the mission to increase the number of young men of color (YMOC) attending and graduating from colleges and universities. We strive to create a world where men of color are overrepresented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and leaders in their communities. Through resilience, authenticity, and passion, we work to combat academic inequities and build a college-to-community pipeline. Role Description

This is a part-time hybrid role for a Student Mentor at Improve Your Tomorrow. The Student Mentor will be responsible for providing guidance and support to young men of color in their academic and personal lives. The day-to-day tasks may include mentoring students, facilitating workshops and group discussions, assisting with college applications, and providing resources and referrals. This role is located in Sacramento, CA, with flexibility for some remote work. Qualifications

  • Experience in mentorship or tutoring
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by young men of color
  • Knowledge of college admissions process and financial aid resources
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
