General Definition of Work
Performs work maintaining and supporting IT infrastructure and physical security, providing user guidance and assistance, developing and maintaining city Wide Area Network (WAN) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) infrastructures, installing hardware, software, and peripherals, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Administrative Services.
· Services and maintains computer server and network and the City’s website, personal computers, wired phones, and cellular phones.
· Develops and maintains city WAN and VPN infrastructures.
· Supports end users directly with networking and computer issues through the IT Helpdesk.
· Installs hardware, software, and peripherals on all computers.
· Implements, administers, and troubleshoots network infrastructure devices.
· Manages backups and ensures data is protected.
· Manages and updates physical security, including electronic door locks and camera access.
· Fixes and repairs critical infrastructure.
· Provides recommendations for upgrades and replacements.
· Coordinates end user training.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively utilize time to maximize impact of efforts on overall IT infrastructure.
· Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users.
· Knowledge of Windows environment and software, TCP/IP connectivity, and an understanding of client server applications.
· Experience configuring firewalls, switches, backup software and Virtualization.
· Must be courteous and helpful to staff, and the public.
· Performs additional duties as required.
· Follow city and department policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED, and a minimum of 2 year of educational experience focusing on hardware and software support in a multi-user network environment and 2 years' work experience in an IT support role.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Requires a high level of skill with computer systems and their use as well as a willingness to learn new applications and services rapidly.
Salary from $59,385 up to $84,000 per year, plus a generous benefit package.
