Job Summary:

Supervision and review of church finances.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Supervise, provide guidance and support to Accountant whose job includes general ledger, payables, payroll and benefits administration, contributions and stock gifts, insurance and other business matters, with a focus on meeting deadlines. Hands on review of Accountant work product with a particular emphasis on payroll. Evaluate Accountant job performance at least annually.
  • Preparation of detailed annual church budget in collaboration with Finance Team and ministry teams, with a hands-on focus on Income and Personnel budgets.
  • Manage all elements of church budget.
  • Supervise expenditure of funds.
  • Review monthly financial statements for all funds: LOPC, KMG, B&G, Seedlings and provide analysis.
  • Prepare agenda and related Session motions and documents to lead monthly Finance Team meetings.
  • Provide support to Pastor of Executive Leadership, Finance Team, and Head of Staff.
  • Provide financial administrative support to clergy, support staff, teams of Session, Deacons KMG, Seedlings, and congregation as needed to supplement work of accountant.
  • Manage Foundation related capital and operating grants and related billing.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for Special Gifts & Offerings, Foundation, Investments.
  • Review annually church insurance with Pastor of Executive Leadership and provider. Communicate details and recommendations to Finance Team. Pay attention to risk management for the church.
  • Oversee preparation of all financial and tax reports to Presbytery, Synod, etc.
  • Coordinate with Finance Team in creating, reviewing and implementing Financial Policies and Procedures and Team Goals.
  • Support Administrative Manager, Campus Operations Manager, and Generosity Team, as needed.
  • Prepare the monthly articles for Session and congregation as well as the financial portions of the Annual Report to the Congregation and the Annual Meeting.
  • Coordinate and direct Annual Review as required by Book of Order.
  • Review of contracts and legal documents.
  • Other matters as needed such as Pastor Housing, Sabbaticals, new tax/labor laws, etc.
  • Treasurer hours fluctuate throughout the months and year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree, Business. Major in accounting or finance.

Experience: Seven years in team based, operational, supervisory professional role. Experience as a treasurer in non-profit field helpful.

Special Skills, Licenses or Certifications: C.P.A. preferred.

Qualifications:

Outward facing, leadership role requiring strong communication and analytical skills, as well as confidentiality and discretion.

Organized, self-starter willing to be hands on and detailed.

Strong PC skills and proficient in Microsoft Excel

Good communication skills with the ability to work with different personalities

Able to work independently but know when to ask for support when needed

Excellent prioritization skills while multitasking

Detail orientated with a focus on organization and accuracy

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
