Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a government program and branch of AmeriCorps that places volunteers in nonprofit community organizations where they will complete capacity building projects over the course of one year with the goal of reducing and eliminating poverty in the United States.
AmeriCorps mission is “to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based direct national and community service.”
Many people are without adequate access to basic necessities such as clothing, food, medical care and more; within the Kansas City area, and primarily in Seton Center’s service area and surrounding communities. In addition to creating more access to these vital programs for community members, Seton Center must build community trust. One way to do this is by increasing community engagement and awareness of Seton Center. Helping current and prospective clients understand our impact in the communities we serve. Seton is looking for a passionate and strategic community engagement/volunteer coordinator that can help identify and foster fruitful partnerships with community-based organizations, help Seton Center gather a stronger understanding of the root cause to food insecurity, and identify and address additional community needs.
The Community Engagement Coordinator will work to support Seton Center’s mission by expanding their knowledge of capacity building within a local non-profit, through fully immersive projects within our organization. Designated program will include structured developmental training through formal job shadows, working directly with clients and exposure to disciplines of a local non-profit, dental clinic and social service agency.
