Position Title: Distribution Center Supervisor

Location: Anchorage Distribution Center 

Customary Work Hours: 8:00 – 5:00, Monday – Friday & Occasional weekends

Supervisor's Title: Purchasing/Logistics Manager

Basic Function: The Distribution Center supervisor ensures the efficient and timely completion of day-to-day activities at the distribution center. Under administrative supervision, performs work in various phases of hatchery support and operation of the Anchorage Distribution Center. 

Primary Responsibilities: This position is responsible for distribution center clerk and driver staff daily workflow. The responsibilities of the position include reviewing work of receiving clerks and drivers in the purchasing, shipping, receiving, and distribution activities of the Anchorage Distribution Center, and assembling all corresponding shipping and receiving documentation. Oversee the shipping and receiving of supplies, ensures receiving and driving crew is knowledgeable and adhering to relevant sections of 49CFR and 29CFR when shipping and receiving freight. Ensures work at the Distribution Center is completed by receiving and loading freight.

Description of essential duties and responsibilities:

Supervisor

• Coordinate with the supervisor to plan distribution work

• Receive and document all fish food deliveries and movement at the Distribution Center

• Plan, layout and disseminate work tasks for efficient flow and to meet delivery deadlines

• During absence of Purchasing Manager steps in to continue work

• Review work of receiving employees throughout the daily process and at completion to ensure it has been performed properly

• Apprise supervisor of items loaded

• Apprise supervisor of problems encountered and solutions provided

• Work with staff to examine freight for quality control, work with supervisor to notify vendors and customers of issues

• Plan and determine loading sequences, coordinate with receiving and driving staff of load plans

• Maintain a safe working environment by following and monitoring safety procedures and equipment including the use of required PPE

• Conduct monthly safety meetings, attend weekly group safety meetings

• Work with Health and Safety staff for maintenance of OSHA and SDS files

• Coordinate with supervisor to plan, oversee, and assist with site security, cleanup, snow removal, general maintenance, and repair to facilities

• Coordinate with supervisor to complete distribution center staff performance evaluations

• Ensure correlating documentation, purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and manifests are consolidated for each delivery and provided to purchasing and accounting personnel

• Ensure all receiving and shipping files are accurate and up to date

• Ensure all CFR 49 documentation is up to date and accurate

• Train new employees and others on distribution operations, including equipment, processes, and protocol updates

• Analyze and recommend changes to procedure and equipment for quality improvement

• Keep apprised of new procedures, protocols and policy changes affecting the distribution center

• Assist with new employee selection as needed

Distribution Center Performs as needed:

• Maintain shipping manifests, bill of ladings, and receiving summaries

• File and input data and documents relating to shipping and receiving

• Label, weigh, organize, and consolidate all supplies in compliance with 49CFR and 29CFR shipping and according to delivery schedules

• Drive company box van to make deliveries, pick up orders, and purchase supplies

• Receive incoming vendor deliveries, accurately counting and comparing delivered supplies to the corresponding purchase order

• Record damage or discrepancies in orders

• Track supply returns and exchanges and trace missing items according to protocol

Essential Functions: Work performed at the Anchorage Distribution Center in a warehouse environment. Must be able to move about freely; ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; ability to climb stairs without assistance; use telephones and computers unimpaired. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to hear and see to receive verbal and written instructions. Will regularly operate warehouse equipment which requires manual dexterity requiring some coordinated movements. Will regularly conduct work in and outside the facility, may be exposed to inclement and cold seasonal weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate.
