Historic New England is seeking applicants for one, part-time researcher specializing in the history of labor and domestic service in New England. Their research in this fellowship will focus on Portsmouth, NH from the late 1700s through the early 1900s paying particular attention to Black and Irish laborers, workers, domestic servants and any other communities typically overlooked or silenced by the historical record. They will utilize all resources available to extend and deepen our knowledge of this history then work with staff to apply that research to the interpretation at our Portsmouth historic house museum, Langdon House. This is a post-master’s degree position in a uniquely interdisciplinary setting with the opportunity to work cross-team with Historic New England staff in areas of material culture, archives, preservation, architectural history, and visitor experience.
Classification: Part-time; Non-exempt; 20 hours per week beginning September 2024; Term-limited nine (9) months.
Location: Langdon House, Portsmouth, NH with partial remote work
