Frequently Asked Questions About Applying or Working at Beck College Prep

  • I did poorly on the SAT/ACT, but I did phenomenal in a STEM Major in College, should I even apply to work?

Yes! Amuni Beck, the founder of Beck College Prep, created a specialized curriculum that incorporates test taking strategies as well as concept learning. It is more important to Beck College Prep that you have an excellent understanding of math concepts, as without those, then the Beck College Prep training is not efficient.

Beck College Prep provides Refresher Bootcamps on all topics of the SAT and ACT, as specific as relearning Parabola, Line, System of Equations, Grammar, Etc.

  • What type of specialized curriculum would I be trained on?

Beck College Prep has students take both an ACT and SAT diagnostic exam in order to decide which is the student’s exam of strength. After the student and Beck decide which test the student will prepare for, you as the tutor would be teaching the student from beginning to end the entire concept. Then you would use SAT and ACT assimilated problems that correspond with the topic taught to test the students' understanding of the lesson and for homework. Of course adjusting to the student’s progress or retention, the lessons and homework are repetitive, so eventually they become committed to your memory. This is the specialized curriculum that you will be trained on. Beck College Prep is not just about opening up a test prep book and teaching problem to problem, but more giving the student a holistic understanding of all of their deficient areas so that they can apply the concept regardless of the problem. We also help train you in behavior analysis so that you can properly motivate your student according to their personality and needs.

  • How Many Hours of Training Will I have? Do I get trained first and then begin tutoring o do I train and Tutor simultaneously?

Throughout the employment of Beck College Prep, you will have received over 150 hours of paid training. You are given one full week of training initially, then after the full week of training, you continue to train while taking on tutoring. Part of the training is ensuring that not only do you have knowledge of the material but that you are able to explain it at the Beck standard. For this reason, you complete all of the homework, classwork for every topic that you teach in Beck College Prep, and during the training period. You also do real in-person simulations of the tutoring session before having the student with another Beck team member to give you the confidence that you are on the right track, as well as for the Beck Training Manager to give you proper directions if any changes need to be made.

  • What formats of tutoring does Beck College Prep offer?

We provide one-on-one, 2 person groups, 3-6 person groups, and 7-9 student courses.

  • What would my schedule be like?

If students need a different availability than the one you are offering, the Beck College Prep Program Coordinator will help you in terms of coordinating your availability to suit both your needs and the client’s needs.
