Position SummaryThe Visitor Services Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a positive visitor experience at the DC History Center during our public exhibit and retail hours. As an integral member of the team, the coordinator will staff the welcome area, exhibit galleries, and store, and support the student workers and volunteers who assist with these essential public duties. The coordinator will be the lead employee on site on weekends. This position reports to the senior manager of visitor services. Our front-facing team is integral to the success of the DC History Center, and we seek an individual who is customer-service oriented, welcoming, and dedicated to providing an unmatched visitor experience for our guests.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage and staff DC History Center visitor-facing spaces during public hours, Friday-Sunday, ensuring visitors receive high quality customer service.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for local, national, and international visitors with diverse interests through personal interaction.
  • Open and close exhibit galleries and store.
  • Serve as primary key holder on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Staff the store
    • Encourage sales by creating a welcoming environment
    • Operate Square POS device
    • Engage patron questions and inquiries
    • Replenish inventory needed to maintain full shop appearance
    • Communicate retail needs to senior manager of visitor services
  • Support student workers and volunteers in exhibit galleries and common spaces.
    • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment
    • Coordinate daily break schedule
    • Assist with on-boarding and training
    • Address issues as they arise and provide on-site support
  • Communicate facilities issues to senior manager of visitor services.
  • When necessary, liaise with lead Apple staff and security on-site.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Outstanding customer service background
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding dependability and punctuality
  • Experience with point of sale systems
  • Strong verbal communications skills
  • Familiarity with, and enthusiasm for, local DC history, attractions, and culture a plus
  • Immediate availability desired
SchedulingThe Visitor Services Coordinator will have a consistent part-time schedule of 23 hours per week. The DC History Center exhibits and store are currently open to the public Thursdays and Fridays, 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. The coordinator is required to be onsite during those hours Friday-Sunday, arriving 30 minutes prior to opening, and closing within 30 minutes after public hours are concluded. The coordinator will be the primary employee on site during Saturday and Sunday open hours.
Perks And BenefitsThe DC History Center recognizes the 11 federal holidays, one DC holiday, and the day after Thanksgiving, for a total of 13 paid holidays for full-time employees. Regular part-time employees receive pro-rated holiday pay for the same scheduled holidays. Regular part-time staff are eligible for pro-rated vacation and sick time as well. Complimentary membership in the DC History Center included, granting free or discounted access to thousands of partner museums and institutions across the US, among other benefits. Central downtown location easily accessible from all Metro lines.
