Function: The Shelter Manager supervises the shelter and tends to the well-being and safety of the residents. The Manager conducts initial intakes, screens residents on the phone, and sets up appointments for new residents. The Shelter Manager has primary responsibility for daily shelter management.

Responsibilities: (Include but are not limited to the following)

· Completes intakes, provides the new resident with an orientation to shelter rules and policies, and enters new residents into the data management system.

· Speaks to residents having difficulty in the shelter about appropriate behavior and helps to manage client disputes.

· Helps clients obtain basic information about BOS programs and how to access these programs.

· Treats residents with respect while enforcing all house rules.

· Tends to the well-being of the residents and ensures their safety.

· At least once an hour, walk through all areas of the shelter (bathrooms, recreation room) and record what is going on in the computer log.

· Enforces house rules and completes necessary paperwork when residents violate rules.

· Inform the Shelter Director of any physical problems with the building.

· Notifies police and relevant staff in emergency situations.

· Follow all food safety guidelines.

· Helps with deliveries of food and supplies.

· Appropriate to their shift, checks chores, and signs they have been completed.

· Maintains the shelter schedule for their shift.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or GED

· Good interpersonal skills.

· This is an essential position – employees must report to work to cover their shifts.

· Understanding women’s issues, addictions, and homelessness is helpful.

· No criminal record related to sex crimes, domestic violence, or child abuse

· Ability to understand, respect, and appreciate people of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds as individuals and in groups.

· Ability and willingness to work within authorized policy, structure, and job description; ability to be supervised and to work in a team relationship.

· Ability to plan and organize effectively; to work under pressure; to plan work to avoid rushes and slack times; to produce precise, concise documentation.

· Ability to adapt as the nature of the job evolves; to support decisions in which she/he may not have shared; to show good judgment and a mature attitude; to show enthusiasm and stamina.

· Ability to communicate and to work cooperatively with staff, members, volunteers, and the public; keeping channels of communication open and using consultation and coordination appropriately.

· Ability to work in sensitive situations and to maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to lift and move fifty pounds

· Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with residents and staff.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week
