Position Title: Director of Human Resources: People and Culture

Position Summary: The Director of Human Resources: People and Culture at Cat Care Society is responsible for the people part of human resources, leading initiatives for training and development, ensuring fair hiring practices, successful employee engagement and retention, and supporting the organization’s administrative efforts.

Salary:  Starting at $60,000-$63,000

Reports To: Executive Director

About CCS:Cat Care Society is a limited-admission non-profit cat shelter located in Lakewood, Colo., that was founded in 1981. Throughout our 40-plus year history, we've worked to provide adoption services and life-saving medical treatment to cats in need in Colorado while providing community engagement to people who love cats. Our unique and free-roaming approach views all cats as worthy; none are too old or ill to be valued, loved and treated with dignity.

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Manage CCS’ Human Resources program. Develop annual goals and implement them, including special plans and initiatives to support the development and sustainability of CCS’ strategic plan and culture
  • Research, develop and implement organization-wide policies and procedures for internal human resource programs, employment policy and training. Seek input from colleagues from across the organization throughout the process to achieve buy-in and ensure equity
  • Work with executive management to develop and implement strategies and programs to support employee development, growth and career advancement 
  • Partner with senior leaders to identify and address key HR challenges and opportunities
  • Oversee onboarding and training processes to ensure new employees have a successful start
  • Lead handling and resolution of all employee relations complaints and issues in accordance with employment law and policy to ensure positive working environment and mitigate employer liability
  • Help create and maintain the performance management system, individual performance plans and retention plans. Ensure that all leaders are trained in the performance management system and that all employees receive regular feedback and annual reviews
  • Manage employee engagement, recognition and satisfaction efforts, progressive discipline counseling, employee separation process and off-boarding program 
  • Develop and implement workforce planning strategies to support the organization’s growth and sustainability
  • Support the executive director and bookkeeper in the compensation and benefits programs to ensure they are competitive and fair, and align with the organization’s values and goals
  • Stay up-to-date on federal, state and local employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, and ensure that the organization is adhering to all employment laws
  • Support the bookkeeper with administration of the organization’s HR system, G&A. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations, compensation and benefits practices, and talent management strategies
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective HR policies and programs that align with the organization’s goals and values
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate HR-related information to non-HR stakeholders
  • Passion for the mission and work of the organization
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and demonstrated ability to build and maintain inclusive and affirmative work environments

Education & Experience: 

  • At least 5 years experience in managing a human resources program or similar experience - preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or related field preferred
  • HRCI and/or SHRM Certification a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to animals.
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal bites and scratches.

Schedule: Approximately 32 hours/week, 4 week days to be determined with executive director, remote work flexibility

Location: On-site
