COMPANY: Dumpling Daughter opened its first restaurant in 2014 and now has grown to multiple locations around Boston. In 2021 the company launched a website shipping its food directly to consumer homes, launched an Amazon site selling its famous sauces, and grew a grocery business from 1 to 1000 stores.

POSITION OVERVIEW – Accounting and FP&A Manager/Director

Location: Boston, Massachusetts and/or Remote Work Possible

Reporting to: Brent Sisco, GM

Dumpling Daughter is a high growth company searching for a data-driven accounting professional who is a hands-on individual, willing to bring an analytical mindset to the evaluation and execution of our business objectives. 

This role requires a strong understanding of accounting concepts and the core metrics that drive a CPG business. The right candidate will bring an ability to develop and execute operational strategies to meet and exceed company goals as well as a strength in accounting concepts and processes. This role will have high visibility to the Executive Team and Board while playing an instrumental part of the Dumpling Daughter brand growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting

• Manage the accounts receivable and collections process, including preparing customer invoices as well as following up on past due invoices
• Reconcile bank accounts and ensure that all activity is posted to QuickBooks
• Review processes and work with the internal DD team and our 3^rd party accounting firm to allocate and streamline processes that will effectively accomplish the following accounting tasks
• Prepare journal entries with supporting documentation and post them to QuickBooks
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for certain accounts including Cash, Inventory, Fixed Assets, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Prepaids
• Prepare income statement reconciliations for certain accounts including Revenue, Cost of Goods Sold, and Payroll Expense
• Prepare the monthly credit card entry, ensuring appropriate coding on all charges
• Help transition the business from a cash accounting process to a month-end accrual process
• Support the month-end close process by recording journal entries and completing reconciliations in a timely and efficient manner
• Prepare the monthly financial statement reporting package
• Prepare the monthly gross margin analysis
• Prepare departmental budget vs. actual reporting and distribute to department managers monthly
• Prepare other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed
• Assist with credit card expense reporting, ensuring receipts and expense reports are obtained for all credit card holders
• Assist with year-end audits
• Assist with processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis
• Assist with various other projects and tasks as needed

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Become an FP&A leader owning functions such as financial reporting, cost analysis & quarterly reporting based on key operational metrics used to drive business planning
• Provide visibility, governance and timely reporting of financials and KPIs
• Help P&L by working with outside accounting service
• Analyze financial results, synthesizing key trends and assessing current and future business risk, and communicate to senior management
• Assist Senior Management on board meeting preparation.
• Improve upon financial models or reports that align and simplify monthly business reviews, annual planning, quarterly budgeting and monthly/weekly reporting and forecasting processes
• Build scalable financial processes and metrics by working with leadership and accounting team members
• Collaborate with the Accounting teams on a variety of initiatives, including but not limited to the monthly close process
• Investigate month over month variances and follow up with business functions within the organization on the variances to gather fact-based insights and trends
• Have data analytic discussions in business review meetings
• Complete ad hoc financial modeling and analysis
• Leverage knowledge of CPG industry to track and benchmark against industry standards or competitors
• Validate, analyze, and report on industry data reports including IRI Spins or Nielsen IQ sales reports. Identify performance across CPG channels and investigate root cause of significant variances
• Sales coordination working with the VP of sales to organize and execute onboarding projects with new customers, distributors and/or other business suppliers or partners
• Analyze and report on promotion success by evaluating and tracking KPI across trade initiatives and omnichannel sales funnels
• Organize and track the strategic planning and execution of OKRs and business function initiatives
• Recognize and balance big picture strategic problem solving with a high degree of comfort getting into the details of the day-to-day business
• Develop a robust KPI reporting process to evaluate the company’s ability to meet targets, optimize performance, and identify improvement opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4 years of finance/accounting experience, preferably in the Consumer-Packaged Goods industry
• 4-year degree in accounting or finance, related business field or equivalent directly related work experience required (BS / BA, advanced degree a plus)
• Certified Public Accountant license
• Deep understanding of Cost of Sales, P&L buildup and cost center structures
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience in financial modeling
• Experience within / solid understanding of food and online retail businesses
• Ready to take ownership of the FP&A function for a high growth, venture backed CPG company
• Excellent communicator that can implement structure and processes across the entire business
• Experience defining analytical/research projects, analyzing data, and generating practical insights and decision-making recommendations
• Entrepreneurial, scrappy, and able to work with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred experience (not necessary):

• ERP system knowledge (Oracle, SAP, Business Objects)
• Working closely with Founder led businesses
