TITLE:Library Assistant I LIBRARY: Macon County Public Library, member of Fontana Regional Library CITY: Franklin, North Carolina HOURS: The position is PT/ 20 hours per week with evening and weekend work required. PAY: Starting salary is $10.00 per hour accompanied by paid leave and retirement benefits. Ths position is available June 1, 2024 ABOUT THE POSITION: The Macon County Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic candidate to fill the part-time position of Library Assistant I in the Circulation Services Department. The Macon County Public Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library, a public library system with six member libraries providing service in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. The ideal candidate for the Library Assistant I will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. If you thrive in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, this may be the job for you. QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED is required.One year of customer service experience is required.One year of library experience is recommended.The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent communication skills.Strong technology skills and the ability to give attention to detail are a must.A familiarity with current reading trends is needed.Preference will be given to those with previous library experience and those who can work a flexible schedule.
*Responsibilities *
Includes checking materials in and out, creating, updating, and maintaining library user records, and collecting fines and fees.Assists patrons in locating materials and using the library catalog, assists with readers' advisory service for patrons, shelves library materials and keeps shelves in order.Works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives.
