GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Risk Manager shall implement the functions and activities of the Risk Management Program. This position shall maintain the confidentiality and security of records; Have knowledge of DBHDS Office of Licensing, the Office of Human Rights and Medicaid Waiver Regulations, and maintain a proactive Risk Management Program that complies with the provisions of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
The Risk Manager is also responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating the outcome of the Risk Management Plan. This position additionally shall have other responsibilities and duties in areas of program development and evaluation of services being provided; oral and written communication skills; practical experience in behavior intervention and individual programming for various levels of individuals who have developmental disabilities; other duties as assigned.
The Risk Manager shall:
Oversee and monitor staff’s support notes for quality and compliance.
Continuously look to minimize or prevent errors and events that may result in harm to the agency through proactive risk management activities.
Mitigate the negative effects of errors and events when they do occur.
Minimize losses to the agency overall by proactively identifying, analyzing, and preventing risks.
Ensure effective and quality services.
Work closely with the Program Compliance Director/QDDP.
Maintain knowledge of current services by attending workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Ensure adherence to State licensure, human rights, and Department of Labor regulations and standards.
Ensure confidentiality and security of individual service records.
Ensure confidentiality and security of personnel records.
Conduct annual Proactive Risk Assessment to identify and evaluate the potential for adverse impacts of direct and indirect services processes, building, equipment, and internal physical systems on the safety and health of the individuals served, staff, and visitors.
Conduct annual Life Safety Inspections Ensure that health and safety management standards are implemented and followed.
Annually schedule the components of the risk assessment to include:
A review of incidents (retrospective risk assessment)
A walk-through of the office
Review of office required inspections (e.g. fire extinguishers) to ensure they are up to date.
Review of external regulatory (e.g., DBHDS Licensing, other) agency findings to identify potential risk areas.
Record review of timeliness of assessments
Review of employment records of all new employees to ensure required background checks were completed.
Review of training records to ensure that all staff completed the required training.
Review of policies and procedures related to high-risk procedures (e.g., restraint)
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED
Baccalaureate degree in human services or related field
3 years of Risk Management experience in any industry
PREFERRED:
1 year of work experience with individuals with a developmental disability diagnosis
At least 1 year of supervisory experience
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Risk Management Plan / Root Cause Analysis
Risk Assessments which incorporate Uniform Risk Triggers and Thresholds as Defined By DBHDS. Sec 12 VAC 35-105- 520
SKILLS IN:
Written, oral and interpersonal communication.
Maintaining professional ethical standards.
Salary Range:
$65,000 - $70,000 annually
