Job Title: Animal Shelter Care and Adoption Specialist

Salary: Starting pay $14.50 per hour

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Shelter Care and Adoption Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing the highest level of care for the animals at the shelter, ensuring that they are healthy, safe and happy. Additionally, the Specialist will oversee the adoption process, working closely with potential adopters to find the best fit for each animal.

Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care for animals in the shelter, including feeding, cleaning, and exercising them as needed

• Administer medications and treatments to animals as prescribed by a veterinarian

• Implement enrichment programs to enhance the physical and mental well-being of animals in the shelter

• Implement approved training and socialization programs.

• Maintain accurate records of each animal's medical and behavioral history

• Work with potential adopters to identify suitable animals and facilitate the adoption process

• Provide support and advice to adopters on the proper care of their new pet

• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shelter and its facilities

• Work collaboratively with other staff members, volunteers and partners to achieve the mission of the organization

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college education in animal science, biology or related field is preferred

• Knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and healthcare

• Ability to handle and care for animals in a safe, effective and humane manner

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups of people

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays and special events.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds

• Comfortable working with animals of various sizes and temperaments

• Ability to work in various weather conditions
