Head Start Assistant Teacher

Reports to: Lead Head Start Teacher

Qualifications: A High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate, 15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, and 1 year of work experience related to the care and development of children and prior experience in the supervision of children or a High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate, 3 years of work experience related to the care and development of children, and prior experience in supervision of children.

Examples of Work:

• Prepares and maintains indoor and outdoor areas according to the day’s activities and meals.
• Assists in preparation and facilitation of daily projects and activities.
• Provides input into development of weekly themes
• Demonstrates and communicates a genuine fondness for each child.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude in the job role and enjoys working with children in a group setting.
• Helps children develop independence as appropriate for each child.
• Administers discipline in a manner which does not demean, embarrass or humiliate the child.
• Recognizes that discipline must be appropriate according to the individual child and the infraction.
• Maintains an open friendly and cooperative relationship with parents.
• Communicates with parents on a regular basis and provides a supportive environment for the child and family.
• Observes strict confidentiality regarding children and families.
• Works cooperatively with other staff members, and helps promote a positive atmosphere.
• Assists in completion of daily paperwork.
• Assists in room maintenance.
• Recognizes the importance of and participates in meetings and trainings as requested.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
