The Saginaw Children’s Zoo seeks individuals who wish to provide our visitors and the community with engaging encounters.

As one of the zoos and aquariums accredited by the AZA, we offer high quality educational programs and experiences while creating a family-friendly atmosphere in the heart of the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Title : Keeper I

Description : The Saginaw Children’s Zoo is looking for individuals interested in joining our team caring for invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

• Daily husbandry of animals
• Evaluating animal welfare
• Preparing diets
• Record keeping
• Providing enrichment
• Public interaction and visitor engagement
• Assisting in veterinary procedures as assigned

A successful candidate for this position has a positive attitude, a teamwork-oriented mindset, a strong work ethic, is dependable, and communicates well in both oral and written formats.

This is a full-time (40 hr / week) position with benefits.

Experience :

• Four-year degree in related field
• One (1) year paid animal care experience, zoo or aquarium setting preferred, experience with North American river otters, primates, and domestic animals a plus
• Experience working on a team
• Effective communication skills, both verbal & written
• Computer competency and proficiency with Microsoft Office, ZIMS proficiency a plus
• Ability to work on projects independently under direction
• Ability to manage time effectively
• Ability to work in inclement weather & difficult situations
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays, weekends, evenings and emergency situations.
• Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. on a regular basis
• Able to work safely around allergens such as hay, straw, and grass
• Ability to follow all procedures, protocols and policies.
