St. Andrew's School of Delaware is Hiring an Assistant Athletic Trainer Near Middletown, DE

St. Andrew’s School seeks a part-time assistant athletic trainer for the 2024-2025 academic year. St. Andrew’s was founded in 1929 as an independent, Episcopal boarding school. The school educates about 315 students from around the world each year in an all-residential setting, and has a long-standing commitment to financial aid and socioeconomic diversity. Our students and faculty come from a wide range of backgrounds, traditions, and experiences, and it is this variety that creates a vibrant and challenging learning environment that makes our worlds larger.

St. Andrew’s is an associate member school in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association and a member of the Delaware Independent School Conference.

This position will report to the assistant athletic director and work collaboratively with a sports medicine doctor. The incumbent must be prompt, dependable, and flexible providing sideline medical coverage for practices and games.

This position will work approximately 20 hours per week beginning August 19, 2024 until May 31, 2025. Typical hours are 3:15 PM to 6:30 PM Monday through Friday. Other shifts outside of the typical hours may occasionally be necessary based on game schedules and as needed on Saturdays.

Breaks include a fall long weekend (4 days), Thanksgiving recess (9 days), winter recess (18 days), a winter long weekend (4 days), spring recess (15 days), and a spring long weekend (4 days).

Responsibilities

  • Provide practice and game medical sideline coverage.
  • Independently direct rehabilitation programs for athletes.
  • Possess knowledge about a range of medical problems and the ability to assess and evaluate injuries and work with other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Communicate effectively in high-stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
  • Work independently to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects like coolers or weight room objects.
  • Medium strength is required to position athletes for examination. May assist athletes as needed, helping them on and off-field, the exam table, etc.
  • Must be comfortable driving a golf cart to the sports field to take medical supplies and/or water coolers.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field.
  • Must be BOC certified, possess Delaware state athletic training licensure, and be CPR certified.

  • A thorough background check, inclusive of fingerprinting and Child Protection Registry Check, is required as a condition of employment.
  • Applicant must complete satisfactory reference checks, confirmation of compliance with federal and state employment laws, and any other required condition of employment.
  • A physical and drug screen is also required.
