POSITION DESCRIPTION: Part-Time Sales Associate

DEPARTMENT: Liquor/Wine

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Assistant Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

PAY RANGE: $10-$12 per hour based on experience

DEFINITION:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

● Provide friendly and positive customer service to patrons and visitors to the retail stores.

● Perform accurate and timely cashier functions, including scanning and entering sales transactions, basic mathematical computations, making change and handling cash.

● Perform required ID checks on customers and notifies management of violations, concerns, etc.

● Comply with all regulations regarding sales transactions and established procedures.

● Restock shelves and fill coolers with new merchandise.

● Perform periodic inventory of stock on hand.

● Assists customers in selection of various brands of liquors, wines, etc., advises on quantity of purchases for special occasions, and helps customers with carry-outs.

● Perform other related duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED:

This position uses a variety of equipment in a liquor store and office setting. Such equipment may include, but is not limited to, computerized cash registers, bank card machines, personal computers, printers, telephones, fax machines and copy machines.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of primary retail and liquor store principles and procedures.

• Knowledge of the laws, regulations and operations governing the operation of municipal liquor stores.

• Knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office and applicable software programs.

• Knowledge of safety procedures and “right to refuse” sales.

• Knowledge of liquor retailing and product lines sold in liquor stores.

• Knowledge of liquor training including loss control and Beverage Alcohol Training.

• Ability to proactively greet customers; be friendly, professional, polite and helpful in dealing with customers and employees.

● Represent Spirits Express in a positive and professional manner at all times.

• Ability to communicate to all liquor store personnel.

• Ability to maintain effective, positive and respectful working relationships and confidence with the community, customers and coworkers.

• Ability to cooperate and maintain confidentiality.

• Ability to provide excellent customer service and leadership.

• Ability to work equally as a team and maintain positive, motivated staff rapport.

• Ability to have strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to listen and communicate effectively.

• Ability to merchandise and display retail products, and use computer assisted inventory maintenance and control.

Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

● Must be twenty-one (21) years of age.

● Must have a valid driver’s license

● Ability to perform basic mathematical computations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

● Experience in operating a cash register and making change.

● Experience in retail sales.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

● Knowledge of the various brands and the common usage of liquors and merchandise sold in liquor stores.

● Experience with personal computers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Must possess a valid state Driver’s License or ID.

• Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background examination.

• Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The typical work schedule for this position is part-time Monday-Saturday with occasional holiday, evenings and weekends, subject to current personnel policy and staffing needs of the Liquor Store.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

This position requires the employee to work alone, with others, around others and have contact with the public.

Activities that will occur continuously, 4-5 hours: sitting, walking, standing, verbal communication, hearing, repetitive motions.

Activities that will occur frequently, 2-5 hours: problem solving, written communication, interpersonal skills, grasping, reaching, feeling.

Activities that occur occasionally, up to 2 hours: lifting, carrying, reaching, hand/eye/foot coordination bending and twisting.

Activities that occur frequently, less than 1 hour: stooping, kneeling, reaching at, above, and below shoulder level with the right, left, and both shoulders, and lifting. Physical strength to lift/carry/move moderately heavy cases (minimum of 50 pounds) of merchandise frequently, stock shelves/coolers and assist customers with carryout and other lifting or moving as required for the position.
