Smithfield Animal Hospital is Hiring a Veterinary Receptionist Near East Stroudsburg, PA

Smithfield Animal Hospital has been serving the veterinary needs of the community for over 30 years. Over the past 4 years, Dr. Boe is now the independent owner of the practice and we are continuing to expand with an additional doctor this year, the expansion of a doggy daycare, training, and grooming in the next few months. Our staff is committed to providing pets with compassionate care and quality veterinary medical services. We are currently looking for a Veterinary Receptionist who is looking to work with an amazing and compassionate team of animal lovers.

Position Overview:

The Veterinary Receptionist supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. You will perform a variety of clerical and customer service work as you provide support to the hospital and clients. This is a PART-TIME position and the need for flexible hours is a must. As we continue to grow and expand, this position can expand into full-time in the future.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Able to learn basic veterinary medical terminology.
  • Managing multiple phone lines and taking messages, picking up messages from voice mail and e-mail account
  • Become familiar with retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives. Be able to confidently discuss these topics with clients.
  • Responds to inquiries about the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats
  • Identify potential emergencies and schedule those appointments appropriately.
  • Input data to practice management software to check pets in.
  • Coordinate the flow of pets and owners in the lobby. Assists owners distressed by unexpected waits, unexpected emergencies, and other concerns.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments; provide clients with appointment reminders and any special instructions; call clients whose pets have overdue treatments.
  • Respond to client emails; type and edit a variety of correspondence, and process faxes.
  • Perform cashier duties; process refunds, returns and credits as needed.
  • Receive and distribute incoming mail; and process outgoing mail.
  • Use Windows-based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use software.
  • Scheduling medical, surgical, and boarding appointments.
  • Checking in/out patients for office appointments – reviewing vaccine history and previous records, entering transactions, creating estimates, and filling prescriptions.
  • Cashier duties for all patients, reviewing cash drawer, check and credit card transactions at end of shift.
  • Keeping reception area clean
  • Getting records and release forms ready for next day’s office appointments, surgeries, drop-offs, (i.e. x-rays, blood tests, etc.).
  • Reviewing records for completion and errors prior to filing.
  • Understanding routine pet health care (vaccinations, deworming, spay, neuter, etc.), and answering basic client questions.
  • Taking in urine and stool samples from clients and occasionally setting up lab analysis.
  • Learning to perform computer software/maintenance procedures.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, and/or experience.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and have a willingness to pick up an extra shift if needed.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
  • Experience in veterinary medicine (preferred)
  • Some moderately physically demanding work, involving lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Veterinary medicine is ever-evolving, and we need someone who can roll with the punches and embrace new challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Great communication skills are essential to connect with clients and provide clear instructions and advice.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
