Job Description: We are seeking a Principal AI Research Engineer for conducting research and development in Generative AI, with a focus on creating and improving algorithms and models focused on multiple modalities such as text, images, and time-series data. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experts to drive innovation and push the state-of-the-art in Generative AI across model architectures, distributed computing, optimization techniques, and large-scale deployment. If you have a proven track record of research in any area of generative AI, at-scale development and deployment across the GenAI technology stack, spanning cloud, on-prem, and hybrid infrastructure, and are looking to build the next generation of enterprise GenAI products, then this is the role for you.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research in Generative AI, particularly in data pipelines, pre-training, finetuning, reinforcement learning, model architecture development, performance optimization, multimodal models, and deployment techniques.
• Design and implement novel algorithms and techniques for advancing the state-of-the-art in GenAI.
• Play a leading hands-on role in all aspects of core GenAI research across the full stack of our GenAI platform.
• Collaborate with the cross-functional team of product managers, applied researchers, data engineering, and software development teams to help design and implement large-scale cloud-native products & APIs.
• Participate in high-level technical discussions, contributing to roadmap planning and technology evaluations for platform development.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of Generative AI and related areas.
• Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
• Mentor and coach the applied research and product technology team and help build a strong culture of rapid innovation through active participation in hiring and retention.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience as an AI researcher with a track record of applied research work acting as a technical leader developing novel techniques for AI in general, and 3 years of experience actively developing GenAI technologies.
• Strong background in Generative AI, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Probability, and Statistics.
• Proven track record of publications in top-tier conferences and journals.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and/or Go, with a deep understanding of deep learning techniques and their deployment in large-scale production environments with accelerators (e.g., GPUs).
• In-depth hands-on knowledge of one or more cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, and/or Azure.
• Ability to tackle complex problems, make data-driven decisions under ambiguous conditions, and apply best practices for secure software development.
• Exceptional problem-solving ability and attention to detail, with examples of challenging problems solved in high-stakes environments.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, adapt to changing technologies and priorities, and have strong communication skills for effective team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 15 years of hands-on experience as an AI researcher and 5 years of experience actively developing GenAI technologies.
• Experience developing tools, libraries, and infrastructure for data preprocessing, model training/finetuning, and deployment of LLMs in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with multi-node high-performance computing systems to build large-scale models and deploy them in production.
• Experience working in hyper-growth environments.
