Unger Construction LLC. is Hiring a Construction Safety Manager Near Sacramento, CA

Unger Construction Co. is a dynamic and growing company seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join our team. As a Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in planning, training, coaching, directing, and implementing the company safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment on project sites and offices. Must have commercial construction experience, preferably with a General Contractor, and meet minimum requirements. Resumes received through staffing agencies will not be considered.

Expected Outcomes:

  • This is a 100% in-person position and the ideal candidate must be willing and able to travel to our offices and project sites located in North Bay and Greater Sacramento areas.
  • Establish a positive safety culture and ensure project safety goals are achieved
  • Lead and ensure the maintenance of injury free environment
  • Participate in OSHA inspections and ensure projects are free of violations
  • Foster the development of safety programs and protocols
  • Monitor and measure team engagement regarding safety and provide training/coaching as necessary
  • Ensure all governmental safety regulations are observed and practiced
  • Conduct weekly safety visits and coach internal/external employees on safety practices and protocols
  • Analyze and recommend corrective actions and/or plans

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop specific objectives and strategies to maintain an effective safety program that complies with federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Participate in pre-construction, client, and project safety meetings
  • Plan and implement safety programs and training for staff, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain the company Safety Manual, documents, and training material.
  • Develop and maintain Toolbox Safety Talks in compliance with company safety policies
  • Obtain and maintain all Cal/OSHA required permits
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources department on disciplinary and substance abuse policies
  • Provide information, signs, posters, personal protective equipment, barriers, etc. to projects
  • Review accident and incident documentation for accuracy, determine root cause, and implement corrective action if necessary
  • Participate in accident investigations resulting in lost time; property/liability/equipment damages; and produce investigative reports
  • Represent the company in all safety-related hearings (Cal-OSHA, etc.)
  • Prepare required regulatory reports and ensure they are submitted timely
  • Write and distribute Safety Bulletins, Alerts, and Lessons Learned
  • Prepare and provide periodic safety analyses, budgets, and reports requested by leadership or supervisor
  • Recommend and enforce disciplinary actions against safety policy violators
  • Conduct periodic safety drills at company offices to ensure relevance and compliance
  • Manage preferred vendors for safety supplies
  • Develop and continually improve the effectiveness of the department’s procedures
  • Monitor the company’s fleet of vehicles, equipment, and warehouses, and report to supervisor
  • Work with Human Resources on personnel-related actions, injuries, and/or violations
  • Communicate and cultivate company vision, values, goals, and safety culture to employees, contractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Able and willing to travel to multiple project sites, meetings, and conferences
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by the supervisor

Minimum requirements:

  • 4-year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience or 6 years as a safety professional in an unrelated industry
  • OSHA30 and/or OSHA500 certification
  • Must have Nationally recognized safety designation (CSP, ASP, OSHT) or equivalent
  • Additional Certified Safety Training credentials are a plus
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and Company regulations
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
  • Possess good computer skills

Qualifications:

  • Able to respond quickly and effectively under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Excel at leading and conducting engaging training and presentations
  • Able to teach and mentor
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to work independently; prioritize tasks; exercise judgment and initiative

Licenses:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
