Job Description - Civil Construction Superintendent

Our growing and popular Whelcon Contractors team is seeking a Civil Construction Superintendent with quality driven operational leadership to coordinate and communicate between various construction projects and on-site craft employees. The Civil Construction Superintendent will be responsible for field management and ensure safety compliance, quality standards, craft employee staffing, material application, equipment utilization, and communication with inspection authorities.

Construction Superintendent Responsibilities

• Lead and manage on-site construction teams with clear communication and organization.
• Create a safety culture that provides a safe working environment in compliance with Whelcon Safety Standards and government regulations.
• Manage, train, and develop employees to learn all aspects of their job and represent Whelcon Contractor’s Quality of Work Standards for customer satisfaction.
• Coordinate and manage resources to plan for on-site production and meet or exceed project objectives.
• Place orders for new equipment and materials while maintaining responsibility for existing equipment and materials on-site.
• Attend production meetings to discuss projects and adherence to the schedule and budget. Follow the project timeline to meet or exceed project deadlines.
• Ensure quality standards are met and foster a working environment that recognizes the positive effect of quality control.
• Foresee and mitigate the potential for production and project problems in relation to operations and resolve unforeseen problems to ensure quality work, appropriate scheduling, and safety regulations and standards.
• Collaborate with subcontractors, other project members, and leaders to effectively implement project plans to include scheduling and project changes.
• Maintain records for site personnel such as daily field reports, field orders, and RFIs.
• Communicate with inspection authorities regarding job standards and approvals.
• Ensure on-site cleanliness and orderliness.
• Provide visual displays through photographs or video of project progression and site development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• 5 years of experience in civil construction projects at a Superintendent level.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Capacity to interpret and build according to drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
• Skilled with scheduling software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Proficient with MS Office Word, Excel, Google Suite and Microsoft Project.
• Competent with taking and uploading digital photographs.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands as described must be met by an employee of Whelcon Contractors to perform essential job functions successfully. Applicant must be able to do the following:

• Talk, hear, and see with the ability to distinguish colors.
• Stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
• Use hands to write and operate a computer keyboard.
• Use hands and feet to operate heavy equipment.
• Wear weighted safety gear as required by safety regulation for long periods of time, such as steel-toed shoes, a belt safety harness, and a hard hat.
• Lift and/or move materials up to and exceeding 50 pounds.
