Rope Craftsman

Overview

The Rope Craftsman fulfills online rope to help customers get the right rope for their next project by custom-finishing the ends of rope for daily orders for a wide variety of applications such as:

  • Splicing an eye-loop into the end of a rope (dock lines, porch swings, arborist bull ropes, etc.)
  • Heat-shrinking soft-grip handles on exercising ropes

This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, ~ 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at our new warehouse just off I-96 Exit 64. Pay starts at $15 / hour and increases as you ‘learn the ropes’. Most team members are able to earn $25 / hour within their first year. On-the-job training provided, and there are lots of opportunities for growth!

About You

A great candidate will enjoy using their hands to create useful products for others in a fast-paced production environment. Prior experience in positions that require physical speed, problem-solving with numbers, and working with your hands to build something specific are transferable skills needed to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

Fulfill each order to customer specifications by:

  • Pulling rope from a large spool
  • Using a rope counter and other hand-tools to precisely measure the correct length of rope
  • Taping the end of the rope so it doesn’t fray
  • Using a hot cutter or other hand-tools to cut the rope to the exact length
  • Learn and become proficient in all rope splicing techniques; including splicing hardware into ropes such as thimbles, handles, hooks, etc. Training and certification provided.
  • Using a hand-operated machine to coil rope for compact storage and shipping
  • Tying twine around each coil of rope to hold it together for stocking and shipping
  • Using shipping software to determine best carrier for shipping to meet delivery expectations
  • Creating shipping labels and packaging / palletizing rope for shipping

Provide excellent customer service by:

  • Paying attention to packing slip details to ensure all rope and rope products are exact
  • Working speed and accuracy to ensure all orders placed by 3 p.m. are shipped the same day

Support an efficient team environment by:

  • Pre-making stock of commonly ordered ropes
  • Keeping inventory put away and workspace clean and organized
  • Using a pallet jack and forklift to move and retrieve inventory (Required training and certification provided)
  • Taking initiative to pitch in wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly and customers satisfied

Schedule

Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Monday 7:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Tu - Th 7:30 - 4 p.m.
  • Friday 7:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Compensation

Our pay structure begins at $15 / hour and is built to provide incremental pay increases as team members demonstrate mastery of new skills and become faster at fulfilling orders. We have a rubric that shows this in greater detail but the short version is . . .

  • Pay range: $15 - 35 / hour
  • Orientation (4 days onsite, $15 / hour)
  • Starting wage determined by performance rubric at the end of orientation
  • Wage increases earned as skills and productivity increase, as determined by the rubric, as often as every 2 weeks

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old and earned (or soon earning) high school diploma / equivalent
  • Be drug-free
  • Strong hands and arms and able to safely lift 75 pounds and work while on your feet all day
