Job Title: Development Specialist

Program/Dept: Advancement & Culture

Location: New Hope

Manager: Associate Director of Development Manager

This is a full-time exempt position, 40 hrs/wk, Mon-Fri, with a competitive benefits package. The hiring salary range is between $50,000-$60,000.

Job Summary

The Development Specialist is part of the Advancement & Culture department and is accountable for supporting the development goals and strategies of the organization. Key responsibilities include donor stewardship, individual giving and grant support, gift entry, and event planning support.

Core Job Functions

Primary job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Submit grant proposals and funder reports in collaboration with Grants Officer.
  • Support appeal and newsletter writing in collaboration with the team.
  • Steward donor relationships and manage relationships and strategies for designated segments of donors.
  • Support donor stewardship projects and tasks such as new donor welcome packets, milestone letters, year end receipts, holiday and gratitude cards, and board thank you notecards.
  • Coordinate virtual cash drives with partners in the community and the key food drive partnerships we work with throughout the year.
  • Handle questions, communication, and RSVPs to tours, virtual updates, and events.
  • Support gift entry and acknowledgement letter processing in Raiser’s Edge in collaboration with the Development Operations and Database Manager.
  • Provide back-up and cross training coverage for donation and acknowledgement processing in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Plan events in collaboration with different teams across the organization, including in-person, virtual, appreciation, and fundraising.

  1. Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in development.
  • Proven professional with 3 years’ experience in a community based nonprofit agency preferred.

Working Conditions and Environment

This position is located in an office setting with remote flexiblity. The building is accessible and smoke free. This position works during normal business hours and includes some evening and/or weekend hours. Start times are flexible to adjust to bus, biking, or other transportation schedules. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and utilize various office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, and calculator) on a continual basis.

The Food Group (TFG) is a local food equity nonprofit. For more than 45 years we have worked to provide nutritious food to those who need it most in our community. We work at the intersection of food access, equity, and nutrition issues related to food and hunger in Minnesota. We work across the food system and our programs include hunger relief, affordable grocery, and a land-based education farm. Hunger Solutions Minnesota operates as the advocacy branch of The Food Group.
