Hannah Pet Hospital is Hiring a Director of Human Resources Near Portland, OR

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes within the organization. This role ensures the alignment of HR initiatives with the company’s strategic goals, providing leadership and direction in HR policy development, talent acquisition, Team Member relations, performance management, and compliance with labor laws. The Director of HR acts as a strategic partner to senior management and supports a positive, productive, and inclusive workplace culture.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Human Resources Department

Expected Work Hours:

Standard 40-45 working hours per week, with flexibility for additional hours as needed to meet organizational goals. This position is in an office environment; frequent presence in both locations in Portland, OR is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the executive team on key organizational and management issues.
  • Lead the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the recruitment process to attract, select, and retain high-caliber talent.
  • Develop and implement strategies for Team Member retention, career development, and succession planning.
  • Monitor and improve onboarding processes.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive performance management system.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers on performance appraisal and improvement plans.
  • Ensure alignment of individual performance with organizational goals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Address and resolve Team Member issues and conflicts in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Promote Team Member engagement and well-being through various programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to compensation and benefits.
  • Regularly review and update compensation structures to remain competitive in the market.
  • Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance Team Member skills and career development.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Promote continuous learning and professional development within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain HR metrics and reporting systems to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Mitigate organizational risk through proactive HR practices and policies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing HR team culture.
  • Manage HR budgets and resources effectively.

Acceptable Experience, Training, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, PHR) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 4 years in a senior HR leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience in strategic HR planning and execution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit for up to 4 hours and stand for up to 4 hours before taking a break.
  • Ability to walk, move, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate, activate, detect, and position.
  • Ability to hear and communicate by voice or phone in an environment with a moderately high noise volume.
  • Ability to see in order to determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain emotional stability in high-pressure situations.
