POSITION SUMMARY :

Coordinates the preparation of parishioners in the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, First Penance, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage in accordance with Church law and diocesan and parish guidelines.

Coordinates administrative liturgical responsibilities that lead the faithful to full, conscious, and active participation in parish liturgical celebrations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES :

  • Assists the Pastor and Director of Disciple Formation to organize, train, and coordinate parish Sacrament preparation from initial registration, formation, administrative paperwork, reception and proper recording of receipt of the Sacraments
  • Assists in planning and execution of parent / child Sacrament Preparation Workshops and Confirmation Retreat with the Director of Disciple Formation, the Coordinator of Family Faith Formation, Small Group Facilitators, and external vendors as needed
  • Works with the parish Director of the RCIA for any collaborative Sacrament preparation needs for both children and adults
  • In collaboration with the Pastor and Coordinator of Family Faith Formation, organizes and assists at rehearsals for parish First Communion and Confirmation Masses
  • Assists office staff as necessary to print certificates and complete proper recording of receipt of the Sacraments of Baptism, First Penance, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage
  • Assists in the development of yearly schedule, calendar, and Facilitator and Parent Guides
  • Coordinates the securing of visiting priest confessors for First Penance and the Confirmation Retreat
  • Oversees monthly Baptism Preparation Workshop and assist with scheduling of Baptisms with parish staff.
  • Collaborates with the Office Manager and Communications Manager to ensure the parish vision of discipleship is maintained throughout all parish messages and communications (scheduling, marketing, website, bulletin, and social media).
  • Reviews liturgical documents from the diocese to ensure coordination with parish liturgies, especially the Sacrament of Confirmation here in the parish as well as Adult Confirmations at Pentecost administered by the Office of the Bishop
  • Creates Sunday and some Holy Day Pre-and Post-Mass Announcements and Prayers of the Faithful in collaboration with parish staff
  • Creates programs for funerals and other special liturgies (First Communion, Confirmation, etc.) as needed
  • Assists in the Marriage Preparation Process as parish liaison with ministry partner, Witness to Love, coordinate coaching sessions with engaged and mentor couples, and recruit mentor couples when needed
  • Coordinates with Parish Wedding Coordinator and wedding party to choose appropriate music; schedule cantor, organist, sacristan, and altar servers as needed
  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and other relevant parish meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Disciple Formation

Physical Demands / Working Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, required to have ordinary ambulatory skills; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weight of 10 - 50 pounds
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read
  • Frequently required to sit, hear, talk and use repetitive motion of the hands / wrists
  • Work performed in and out of the office setting
  • Periodic evening and weekend work is required
  • Periodic travel is required

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Must be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic, able to participate in the full sacramental life of the Church with a commitment to growing consistently in her / his faith life
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the liturgy of the Catholic Church and the place of the various musical elements used with the liturgy
  • Understanding of the requirements of the lectionary, the liturgical calendar, the Roman Missal, and sacramental rites
  • Hands-on understanding of evangelization, sacrament preparation, and catechesis with the ability to articulate and give witness to the Catholic faith in a charitable and compelling manner
  • Sensitivity to controversial issues and ability to respond in accordance with Church teaching
  • Active listener with the ability to work collaboratively, foster teamwork, and address conflict as it arises, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have the ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly, concisely, professionally, and respectfully, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and evaluate programs; ability to align program goals with parish vision, strategic goals and objectives and to formulate recommendations to improve program delivery and / or management.
  • Demonstrate good facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management, planning, and delegation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the appreciation for and ability to budget and implement financial controls.
  • Ability to create basic documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Office products

EDUCATION :

Requires an in-depth understanding of the Sacraments and the preparation and process for receiving and recording them. Bachelor's degree is desirable along with practical work experience.
