POSITION: Program Assistant & Safety Patrol
LOCATION: Patrick Lynch Elementary School
HOURS: 6.5 Hours Per Day (8:30am - 3:30pm)
DAYS: 190 Days Per Year
STARTING SALARY: Range 1 ($16.40 - $17.27 Per Hour for 2023-2024; 2024-2025 Hourly Rate Pending Union Negotiations)

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT(S): The position of Program Assistant monitors student behavior during playground, cafeteria, detention-time out, or street crossing activities; and performs a variety of general clerical duties in support of instructional activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:
Skill in working with other adults and with students with a variety of skill levels, monitoring student activities and behavior and constructively intervening to stop unsafe or unruly behavior. Monitor student educational progress and advise teacher(s) of student progress or perceived deficiencies. Patiently and effectively work with students, including students with behavioral problems and mild learning disabilities. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of Basic child care techniques; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and basic bookkeeping, as required of specific assignment, and modern office methods, practices, procedures, office equipment, as required of specific assignment. Learn basic first aid and safety requirements.
Ability to learn and apply techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management, learn growth and development principles of students. Work in a team situation. Apply prescribed instructional program in small and large group settings and in one-on-one tutoring setting. Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. To learn and apply basic principles and practices of instructional program within area of assignment. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others. Ability to develop rapport with students and other employees. Ability to make decisions independently.
Ability to speak a second language preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel. Reports to appropriate Principal.
