Description Of WorkIf you desire a rewarding career that has a great work/life balance with benefits, please apply today!The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections is seeking an energized and collaborative oriented CAP Construction Trades Supervisor (Maintenance/Construction Technician IV) to be a part of the NCDAC Support Services, Central Engineering’s Construction Apprenticeship Program (CAP) team and provide field leadership in the general construction trades.
A successful candidate for the CAP Construction Trades Supervisor position, should possess one or more journeyman level construction trade skills within concrete, masonry, carpentry, site work, painting, finishes, and/or equipment operation; strong experience in construction methodologies; strong decision-making capabilities; excellent team collaboration skills; and high-level communication skills.
The CAP Construction Trades Supervisor may work under a CAP Construction Superintendent or CAP Assistant Construction Superintendent on large projects or be assigned sole supervisory responsibility for small projects. This position is responsible to ensuring all construction, renovation, and major maintenance trade installations performed by CAP, are constructed within the work scope, budget, and schedule, and in accordance with the project drawings, specifications, and NC Building Codes.
The position requires weekly overnight travel to and from the assigned construction projects that could be located anywhere within the State of North Carolina. This position will have a duty station assigned as the individual’s permanent home address and is assigned a State owned and maintained vehicle that is used to commute to and from the construction projects and to perform Company business during normal working hours. The work schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / CompetenciesThe Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. We will not review resumes in lieu of the Experience and Education listed on the application.To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more journeyman level construction trade skills within concrete, masonry, carpentry, site work, painting, finishes, and/or equipment operation.
  • Demonstrated experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the engineering construction trades relating to the new construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance of buildings, site development, and/or roadways.
  • Proven experience with the training of unskilled labor forces within the general engineering construction trades.
  • Proven experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
Management Preferences
  • Working knowledge of State and Local building code requirements and standards, environmental rules, and/or other regulatory rules governing the new construction, renovation, and major maintenance of facilities.
  • Experience with generating basic cost estimates relating to the renovation and / or maintenance of buildings, site development, and / or roadways.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Regulations for the Construction Industry.
  • Basic computer software’s and the ability to be trained and learn new job specific computer software.
  • Experience with reading, understanding, and executing construction projects using the Critical Path Method construction scheduling methods.
  • Experience with the operation of heavy construction equipment (dozers, excavators, motor graders, etc.) relating to their use in site clearing and development and / or horizontal roadway construction.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsSome state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Necessary Special QualificationMay require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
